Protecting Guns N Roses
I feel safer already.
Federal authorities say they have arrested a blogger suspected of streaming songs from Guns N' Roses unreleased album, "Chinese Democracy," on his Web site.
Rolling Stone reports:
Yesterday Skwerl was surprised to find himself face to face with two FBI agents who paid a visit to his day job. "It was kind of an ambush," Skwerl tells Rolling Stone. "....It’s a little creepy they know where I work."
Expanded Powers
Maybe Guns N Roses is why the FBI wants to expand their already expanded powers?
WASHINGTON — A Justice Department plan would loosen restrictions on the Federal Bureau of Investigation to allow agents to open a national security or criminal investigation against someone without any clear basis for suspicion, Democratic lawmakers briefed on the details said Wednesday.
Nice to see the FBI watching out for Guns N Roses. Maybe GNRs next album will be called Fusion Center?
FBI Accused of Violating 1st Amendment
When the FBI investigates using national letters, it issues a gag order which means if you are under investigation, you can't discuss it:
"We have a plaintiff who for four years now has been prohibited from criticizing an investigation he believes is illegitimate," the ACLU lawyer who will argue the case, Jameel Jaffer, said. "The problem with the statute is that it gives the FBI power to suppress speech that is critical of the FBI."
So the FBI requests more power, violates the first amendment and protects Guns N Roses profit margin? All in a week's work I guess.
