My Father is not a very political man, he votes but does not really go beyond that. He has voted Republican in the past and really liked John McCain (of 2000) He had told me that he might vote for Obama in the GE but it could change. Well we watched the speech together last night, and were having breakfast together this morning when McCain announced Palin as his VP. Well this morning he told me that he will be voting for Barack Obama no matter what!
My Father was hesitant of Obama at first because of the lack of experience and because he did like McCain but he told me that the selection of Palin as VP for John McCain sealed the deal with him. When I inquired why he said that "She has no experience, or even knowledge of the Job. She has no idea what she is doing and with McCains age she could very well be President." He continued to say that "With Obama you get excellent judgment and he does have some experience, plus Biden, who will always be whispering in his ear, you know he will get excellent advice even if he doesn't ask for it. But with Palin, she has no clue whatsoever what the hell she is doing, and McCain is so god damn old he could very well die in office and what are we left with? A hot right wing nut job who knows nothing of national politics!" He also said that with McCain probably only going to run for one term, if he does win that puts her right in position to become President with, as he put "F***en nothing" in terms of experience. He continued his rant by saying "If he (McCain) really cared about America, if he really cared about properly leading this country he would have picked a person who could actually deal with issues rather than someone who might MIGHT bring in some voters." He said he was actually scared what someone like her could do being so soooo in experienced. It really struck me. I hadn't really had time to think about it but he was so immediately turned off by this pick that he told me that he would not vote for McCain, and later that day, he signed up for the first time in his life to volunteer for the Obama Campaign. So in closing, I would like to thank the McCain campaign for picking such a horrible candidate that it actually convinced my father to do something to stop you and Palin from destroying my country. To wrap up this diary, I will leave you with, possibly the best part of my dads rant. When he found out where she was from he yelled "Alaska! Thats hardly even America!!!" *My apologies to all those Alaskans our there.
[Update]My Father also wanted me to add that the simple fact that the pundits are asking is this going to hurt him, shows that it is a bad pick and has already hurt him.

Oh God. This is now getting officially painful. Just listen to this audio of Palin talking about Iraq. It's excruciating. She doesn't "know what the plan is to ever end the war"? She sounds about as informed as someone you would grab off the subway at random. This is how seriously McCain takes foreign policy and war? Here's the full interview from August 14th.
