I am not a supporter of Republicans these days but all I have heard over the past few months of this campaign is that experience matters. Obama has been profoundly unfit to serve as President because of lack of experience.
When Obama chose one of the most experienced men in Washington as the VP, however, we then heard from Republicans that Obama was not about new and different because he was just picking an old Washington insider.
McCain's pick for VP is now before us and we are looking at one of the most inexperienced politicians I have seen. . . . and the Republicans are cheering and chanting USA USA!
Say What?
This isn't just turnabout. There is a critical difference in positioning here. Obama is the fresh face in charge with a wise experienced politician watching his back. He can be the agent of change because he IS that agent. At the same time he can avoid political pitfalls because he has that experienced VP in his corner even as he tries to be a reformer. If something were to happen to Obama, the country would also have an extremely qualified man in place to run the country.
In McCain's case we have an experienced Washington insider in charge and an inexperienced outsider in his shadow. This insider is an agent of the status quo. As a necessity, he is trying to fight against his nature and be a "reformer." He has an outsider "watching his back" but she will be up against the insiders ego and surrounded by the other insiders who are around McCain and advising him.
The real head scratcher for me, however, is that if McCain were to die in office of, say, being really old. . . we would have a former beauty queen with a degree in journalism from the University of Idaho running America.
Say what??
Is this really something that doesn't bother Republicans?
