Just a little rant to those of you whom I hoped might be somewhat inclined to appreciate it, though it'd probably be improved by a second round of fact-checking. Ultimately what we have is the first ever trophy veep, or John McCain's third wife. As an Obama voter, I'm digging this big time. Let 'em gush now, let her debate Joe Biden with the ethics investigations swirling over her head later...
CONS
- Anti abortion under any circumstance, even life of mother.
- Thinks creationism should be taught in schools
- Under ethics investigation for firing state public safety commissioner when HE wouldn't fire her ex brother in law, and has often changed her story on it.
- Her husband apparently pulls the strings in Juneau, documented locally.
- Wants ANWR opened up to drilling and indeed has sued the federal gov't to have the polar bear taken off the endangered species list to make drilling easier (claims, and I shit you not, that there are more of them than there used to be 40 years ago so they shouldn't be endangered any more--hunting polar bears was banned in 1972. Do the math.)
- Named her kids Bristol, Willow, Track, Piper, and Trig, which should be enough to relegate you to the Redneck Comedy Tour.
- Trig is Down's Syndrome and just four months old; while she's pro-life to a fault, her feeling about the care a special needs child requires can be seen in that she went back to work three days after the birth.
- Has 1 1/2 years experience as governor of a state owned by oil companies (check her contributions, may not look unlike McCain's from the S&L industry in the '80s), with a population that would only make it the 17th biggest CITY in America. Prior to that, was part-time mayor of a town of 7,000, including moose.
- She dissed the VP position in interviews a month or two ago. Not her chances, but the JOB of Vice President.
PROS
- Late in the Reagan Administration, she was nearly quite cute.
