I know what you are thinking.
Hey, why don't we make fun of the fact that McCain picked a woman?
Lets do some light hearted jabs on the idea that she was only chosen because she was a woman.
Well don't do it. It rightly annoys most non white men.
It may resonate with conservatives, but there are several problems with it
1 Diversity is a good thing
2 All the white men who could have been chosen also would have been chosen in part because of their gender.
3 White men generally don't understand this because they see themselves as the default gender and race and just assume that 100% of everything they get is based on merit. Thus when anyone other than a white male is chosen it has to be because of their race/gender.
I know such attitudes tend to personally hold me back in subtle ways at work, but I can ignore them as I work in a skilled field and it only takes a little while to prove competence to another engineer.
It is as annoying as the argument that Obama was nominated in part based on his skin color. Yes that is technically true, but that is also true for every single president who was elected to office.
