It was noted here and on some other blogs today that the best strategy Obama-Biden could employ was to not jump into the fray and chase the Palin-Drone down the Republican rathole. By holding back, and letting Sarah receive her own "special vetting" from even the MSM, it has been argued, her glaring unfitness for the office of VP would become very apparent, very fast.
Well, notwithstanding the Bartoromo Palin-Drone adoration on MTP this morning, it looks like the backlash has begun in MSM newspaper editorials around the country. . Here's a sample from the Denver Post:
"I served with Hillary Clinton. I know Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton is a friend of mine. You, Sarah Palin, are no Hillary Clinton." Sorry to steal Joe Biden’s thunder, but we didn’t want to wait for the vice presidential candidates’ debate to say the obvious. Yes, John McCain, who argues with a straight face that Barack Obama’s 12 years in the Illinois legislature and U.S. Senate aren’t enough to qualify him to run for president, has picked a running mate who just two years ago was serving as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, population 5,470. In short, the presumptive Republican nominee, an Old Soldier in all senses of that term, drafted the political equivalent of the Unknown Soldier as his co-pilot. McCain’s pick of Palin jettisons his attack that Obama isn’t ready to lead and looks more like a desperate "Hail Mary" campaign tactic aimed at female voters."
Talking Points Memo has a complete list of editorial excerpts here.
That Denver Post edtorial is typical of what we all know about this VP pick, but in addition to that, these editorials are calling McLame out on his age, his judgement, his recklessness, his sexism...all cards Barack won't have to play as the trend grows and he maintains his cool composure.
And, as we all know, MSM talking heads pick up most of their material from the scribes, so it's only a matter of time before these lines are repeated on a cable "news" program near you.
"The Backlash Beginneth," indeedy! Bring your popcorn and pull up a seat...
