I've gone on the occasional rant against self-described Democrats and liberals who would kick their own in the sack at a time like this. I didn't care about the controversy around FISA because that is such a small thing in comparison to deciding who will next sit in the Oval Office. I'll be honest; I think many ideals are selfish ones. I do think an end can justify a mean. I think Obama should do whatever it takes and then-some to win back the White House and to restrengthen the party of Roosevelt to the days of its greatest glory. Even if that means naming a running-mate that will, for dubious reasons, agitate vital sections of the Democratic base(people on the internet).
For months now, I have thought Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana would be the best choice for Barack Obama's running mate. Most of you disagree, exhibiting the infamous and selfish ideals that have cost Democrats countless elections. Are we not, after all, known so well for our ability to lose an election? Not this year with so much on the line. Winning is the goal, it is the light at the end of the tunnel. I am far from the only one who thinks that the Democratic ticket will be Obama/Bayh.
This country deserves change. Her people are starving for it. Her friends are praying for it. Even the secular ones in Europe. The reasons are too many to list, too numerous to type, to great to be expressed by pixels depicting words on a screen. There are some who may be taken back by the idea of ideals as selfish aspirations or by a "Democrat" claiming that the end could justify all means. However, I do not think at all that Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana is a fake Democrat. I do not think that he is a "DINO". Most prominent special interest groups within the Democratic Party think he is a Democrat. He has voted with the party more than 80% of the time. Don't let one or two votes be used to caricature him as a war monger. He is far more than that, and I do think is that he is far more qualified to be President of the United States of America than Governor Kaine, Senator Joe Biden, or Governor Sebelius.
People do not want to admit it, but he is far more qualified. He spent four years serving as Indiana's Secretary of State, eight years as Indiana's Governor at a time exemplified by the largest tax cut in state history alongside the largest budget surplus in state history. That gives him the edge on all other viable short-listers in the all-important field of executive experience, and his ten years in the Senate puts him light-years beyond Kaine and Sebelius in terms of national security experience. Ten years on the Armed Services Committee. Ten years on the Intelligence Committee. McCain's choice is unlikely to meet Senator Bayh on these grounds, and thus will be vulnerable as a Veep unfit to step in should the worst occur. Senator Bayh is unquestionably qualified to perform the most sacred and feared duty of a Vice-President. He also won't violate the first rule of "do no harm", having run 5 successful campaigns and having never been known as getting off message. The same can never be said for Joe Biden.
What critics will say most, especially around here, is as follows;
- "He is boring. He's not very charismatic. He won't be a good attack dog." I disagree, and I'll explain later.
- "He is a Neo-Conservative! He supported the IWR and wants war with Iran. He received the Scoop Jackson award." Et Cetra. He used his past experience with Neo-Conservatives, including McCain/Lieberman, to mount an assault upon them. He admits that he was wrong back then, and finds it preposterous that McCain still thinks the war was worth it(for what reason McCain still thinks it worth the cost of American blood and treasure is unknown).
Here is Senator Bayh on Morning Joe, and here is the transcript of his appearance on Fox News Sunday where he fought back against Lieberman's claim that Obama wants to lose in Iraq. But by all means, don't waste anymore of your time learning about him. Just focus on those one or two votes that some people around here think defines a former Governor and current Senator. After all, that's such the Democratic thing to do, right? Trust me, this is the ticket that'll win and win big. This is the Mid-Western Ticket, the Post-Partisan Ticket.
