We have morons just the same as the right does, and now two of them are cuddling. I am all for free speech, and defend and support it (no really, it's in my contract and oath... I'll get it for you) but why does thier free speech cost me so much in Tylenol and Excedrin?
Now the best of these little tit for tats is Olbermann (or as my sister and Stephanie Miller calls him, thier furture ex-husbands) vrs O'Rielly, cause at least one has a sense of humor and it's not a fair fight.
But the latest one I see...... oh gawd. read below the fold. And remember, this is meant as a humor piece.
Recently of at the Huff&Puff post (I read it everyday, but their editorials..... its huff&puff) Max Blumenthal has ranted about Toby’s pro lynching song. I had to take a double headshake to read it. "Toby??? Lynching??? What did the Dixie Chicks say now?" My problem with the article was THE SONG IS FIVE YEARS OLD!!!!! But Max is afraid because Toby now has a movie coming out on basically the same topic which is vigilante justice.
Max, have you seen any movie starring Brice Willis, Charles Bronson, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Vin Diesel, Wesley Snipes... hell, PICK ONE!!!! Jesus, by Max’s definition the Blade movies showed overt racism towards night owls and people who were sensitive to sunlight.
Now, is Toby Keith a racist? Honestly I don’t care. I’ve listened to bands that have made racist songs and figured it was whatever it was. Public Enemy did not encourage harmony in society, still liked them. Guns & Roses was never known for supporting the peace movement, still liked the music. Megadeath made a song called Peace Sells but Who’s Buying. I never thought it advocated going to war.
Sometimes music is music, and meant for nothing more than that. Metaphor’s can and have always been misunderstood, and if you jump on it, maybe it isn’t the song, it’s you.
A list of Toby's more popular songs:
"Beer for my Horses" was a song about..... Hell, did anybody REALLY care? (other than Max Blumenthal at huffington post?) The refrain was catchy, stupid and basically a great drinking song.
"Whiskey Girl" is basically a woman I would love to date, even while my wife frowns as I say this.
"How Do You Like Me Now"?? I have wanted to sing that to so many ex’s....
"Stays in Mexico" is about 2 adults, one married have a week of drinking, sex and very left wing behavior.... anybody who'd like to have this as a vacation raise your hands. (Who ever didnt raise thier hands is either dead or lying.)
His music is fun, and catchy. Now is he everyman? NO!!!! He’s rich, has toured with Shania (maybe I should hate the man) and his wife isn’t the worst thing to see when opening ones eyes first thing in the morning. (Neither is my wife, but honestly, she does tend to make her comments more personnel... go figure)
THEN..... Toby tried to justify Mr. Blumenthal:
"I think the black people would say he don't talk, act or carry himself as a black person."
-- Toby Keith, on Barack Obama
Huh?? He said this out loud? And surprised Glenn Beck to boot.... Listen, I’ll admit, I like Toby Keith’s music. But it is irreverent entertainment, not high brow politics or deep philosophy.
In case someone missed it, Toby Keith is white, I don’t mean like... American-Caucasian white, I mean white, white. Like neon.... Like even people from Sweden are impressed with his opaqueness. The guy sings country music, with an infusion of 80’s rock by using guitar solo’s after the second refrain. How white is that? The only black artist in the 80’s that had those in his songs was Michael Jackson, does anyone else see irony there other than me?
Tony Keith making a reference to how "black" Sen. Obama acts, has got to be the best jaw dropping moment outside of a John McCain being punked by Paris Hilton. (Who actually has the best energy plan... scary I know).
Toby, I know you want to be relevant outside of trying to demonize Mrs. Maines. I know you like to be an everyman hero. Forget it, I like your music, it is patriotic in many ways (American Soldier means a lot to me personally and Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue did capture the countries feelings very well) but dude, you’re playing into the stereotype.
If I have to comment on Mr. Blumenthal being a moron for over interpreting your music, I get to comment on you being a moron for trying to interpret how "black" Obama is suppose to act.
You think he’s a Greenwich Village pussy who only listens to Yanni, and he thinks you’re an inbred redneck who is so racist you even make sure the tires for your pickups are white walls. I say your both right and need to let us focus on the real important issues:
Like Britney’s plan for fixing health care.
