I don't really say much on DailyKos unless I have a funny anecdote or a unique spin to put on current events. Otherwise, there are seasoned DKos vets in attendence that could take the ball through the giant orange satanic hoop for me. But today, I passed the ball off hoping to see a bit more sanity among the ranks of DKos members.
What an airball.
I'd like to think we can avoid the dialogue of "the sky is falling" when tough times hit progressives, but some never fail to drum up the concern chorus. Concern for Elizabeth Dole or concern for Barack Obama's campaign stops in North Carolina are understandable as this scandal casts an ominous presence over many entities.
But never for a second do I feel that John Edwards owes me anything.
As a campaign contributor and a vocal supporter in his orignal White House bid, I swore Edwards could do no wrong. As a Democrat, I respected his work with the Center on Poverty and for being the man the party could rely on. I thank John Edwards for his service and just like how former Senator Edwards illustrated how there are indeed "Two Americas", we now need to do him the service of remembering that there are Two John Edwards. John Edwards: The Public Servant should be revered seperately from John Edwards: The Human Being.
John Edwards: The Human Being is being tried in the court of public opinion this evening with a jury of millions deciding his fate. He has committed a grave sin in spiritual circles that would be punishable by death in the days of Moses. Many of his supporters are dazed and confused with the news of former Senator Edwards' affair. The images of the Edwards Family are etched into our memories for years to come. We sent e-mails of support during Elizabeth Edwards' battle with cancer. The image of John as a supportive husband made him even more endearing to his base. To them there is no seperation of human being and public servant because he transcended politics and wore his morality on his sleeve. Unfortunately, that is the mentality which could end the life of John Edwards: Public Servant.
When we do reflect on the life of John Edwards: Public Servant, we should praise him for his positive works, the choice of using his words to speak out for poverty and not for corporations. Reflect on how he fought alongside us all in 2004 to rid the nation of the Bush Family Mafia. I'll never forget John Edwards: The Public Servant.
There are still many questions that remain unanswered and the pristine view of John Edwards: The Public Servant may go through the same wringer that John Edwards: The Human Being is enduring this very moment. We will handle those matters at their appropriate time. But right now is a time for private reflection for John Edwards, his family, friends and associates. I seriously doubt today is the first Elizabeth Edwards has heard of these allegations and my sincere apologies go to her because she will have to endure the incessent rehashing of this ordeal for many days to come. For her, I am truly concerned.
I guess I named this "Why I Deserve The Shirt Off of John Edwards' Back" is to go one step further to illustrate how extreme the self-victimization has become on DailyKos to a situation that doesn't involve you as a human being. John Edwards: The Human Being, the person who committed the foul, the person who plagued his wife with this grief, he doesn't owe you anything. Let the man off of his cross and allow him to deal with what he has done.
I hope next time Kossacks get the ball from me, they're on the three point line ready to drain the latest news through the net. Work on that jump shot and I'll see you tomorrow.
