It's been 4 days. 4 days since our candidate, Barack Obama, accepted the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. In case you missed it, or just forgot, here are some great quotes from the speech.
This country is more decent than one where a woman in Ohio, on the brink of retirement, finds herself one illness away from disaster after a lifetime of hard work.
We're a better country than one where a man in Indiana has to pack up the equipment that he's worked on for 20 years and watch as it's shipped off to China, and then chokes up as he explains how he felt like a failure when he went home to tell his family the news.
We are more compassionate than a government that lets veterans sleep on our streets and families slide into poverty...that sits on its hands while a major American city drowns before our eyes. Tonight, tonight, I say to the people of America, to Democrats and Republicans and independents across this great land: Enough. This moment...This moment, this moment, this election is our chance to keep, in the 21st century, the American promise alive.
Oh, and this one was good, too...
To -- to Chairman Dean and my great friend Dick Durbin, and to all my fellow citizens of this great nation, with profound gratitude and great humility, I accept your nomination for presidency of the United States.
Oh, hell. Just watch for yourself. It's well worth the effort.
I know, I know. It isn't Sarah Palin. But he's pretty damn awesome.
8 of us stood in the hot Indiana sun this weekend registering voters. I sat in a hot car with a double amputee, registering her to vote so that she could get decent healthcare.
I registered a man, born in 1952, who has never before voted. He's not going to miss his chance this time.
We heard story after story of voters that had already "registered" but hadn't yet received their voting cards. They registered again, just to be sure.
The young people wanted so badly to be able to vote. "Can't we stretch it just a little?"
America, we are better. Daily Kos, we are better than these last 3 days. We are better than this. To be sure, there are legitimate questions about the Republicans and their candidates. But some of us (me included) have treaded into a vicious schadenfreude that is beneath us. It was "fun" while it lasted. Enough.
