There's something that's been bothering me for the last week. Since I haven't been able to find a diary about it, I'll just plunge ahead (and delete if it's been covered).
Back on Sept. 4, before Cindy McCain took the stage to introduce her husband at the Republican Convention, the audience was treated to a gauzy video bio of Cindy. As I watched, my jaw dropped when they got to the part of the story that told of how Cindy and John McCain met.
In 1979, with her parents at a Navy cocktail party in Hawaii, a handsome captain came up and introduced himself. His name was John McCain. He was the Navy's chief liaison to the Senate in Washington. He was 41 but told Cindy he was 37. She was 24 but told him she was 27. It was love at first sight.
More like lies at first sight.
Think about this for a minute. Here's a 41-year-old married guy at a cocktail party who sees a pretty heiress who's obviously a lot younger than he is. So he introduces himself to her and lies about his age. Now, we all know that John McCain has a longstanding pattern of saying whatever it takes to get what he wants. But is this the first time the Republicans have actually bragged about it? And if John McCain would so easily lie about his age to hit on Cindy McCain, how many lies would he be willing to tell the American people to become president?
The story of how they met starts at 2:45.
