Yes, there is a rotting fish but it isn't McCain. It's Obama's campaign strategy, and it's stinking to high heaven. It has become the reanimated stinky rotting flesh of the Dukakis, Kerry and Gore campaigns.
Witness the daily lamentations here at Kos. Polls slipping, the campaign that was once hoping to compete in red states like GA is pulling up stakes, forcing Obama to run the table in the same states Kerry and Gore had to run.
Obama pulled the plug on the 527's and didn't define McSame as a sell out fraud of his once "Maverickness" before the GOP convention, allowing McSame to use that BS theme again.
Obama wants to stick to the 'high road', but ends up looking like a cerebral wimp. Every day is a new McSame attack, and every day we read press releases from the Obama campaign beginning "Obama responds." ENOUGH!
The dymanic must change from responding to attacking. Every day Obama should have his fist in McCain's mouth. Every day it should be "McCain responds". The 527's need to be set free. I don't want to see another warm and fuzzy positive teevee ad about Obama pushing alternative energy and such pablum while McSame runs ads accusing him of raising taxes and teaching kids sex.
I'm tired of this bunk about how the 'ground game' is gonna save this campaign from itself. Sorry, but what I've seen of it consists of well-meaning but clueless out of state kids that don't know their butts from a hole in the ground. Ground game didn't make GA or SC competitive, and it won't save our butts now that the fundy churches are whipped into a frenzy over Palin. You wanna see ground game, that's the place to see it.
I hitched my wagon to Obama because he struck me as a guy that promised he knew how to fight Chicago style, but that ain't the race he's running. Enough, indeed.
