I sincerely hope he’s not, but his repeated statements that the American public is not stupid and that we are smarter than to believe the lies the McCain campaign tells cause me to wonder.
Jump with me.
In this day and age of the scripted "reality" shows where one "wins" by lying, cheating, stealing, anything-to-get-ahead mentality, McCain’s campaign would seem to be perfectly at home. These TV audiences relish the tales of trash-talking, two-faced trickery, as the soaring ratings of those shows would indicate.
Karl Rove’s minions have seemingly spread out among the writers of such ilk, for there is little difference in what you see on these popular win-at-all-cost shows and the McCain campaign trail.
The widespread reports of voter caging, voting machine irregularities, the McCain campaign sending out "absentee" ballot applications to registered Democrats and promoting misleading statements or outright lies about student absentee voting, especially in "purple" states, indicates the fix is in, and it is up to us to put a stop to it. If we don’t, we deserve what we get.
Have we become a nation so inured to this mindset that we won’t recognize it when it smacks us in the face?
I have to believe that his Hope can be borne out in our lives as we get out and work like mad to defeat such utter cynicism and criminal, yes, criminal behavior. If you hear of any of the voter tactics listed above, you need to let it be known far and wide. Check any absentee ballot applications you receive with your board of elections, write letters to the editor, tell your friends and neighbors to be extra specially vigilant about their votes.
The Republicans have done it before and they’re doing it again. It has to stop!
