I hate to say it, and I am not trolling, but the constant barrage of one cable channel or another putting Palin's face out there, and occasionally McCain's, is actually taking over the polls.
It's a discouraging situation, but rationalism is taking a back seat to the sound bite, the McLuhan smoothness and the eye candy appeal of McCain Palin.
America is once again being duped.
It happens, as Obama says, every four years. We get transfixed by the rattling sabers. We get moved to look for and accept warrior candidates.
It is like the end of the Roman Empire in many ways. While our culture is gripped by a new materialism, never overcoming the 1980s and 1990s, we are doomed to follow the sound bite candidates, whether or not they have any kind of interpretation of the truth.
The truth is the loser, we are the losers.
Here we have a candidate who has worked for years to present his case to the American people, some eye candy jumps in and turns everyone around.
Like sheep, the American people turn their gaze to the new meteor, not listening to her words, not weighing her words, not assessing the impact of her background.
How, in the world, can the American people give this level of opportunity to someone who is less vetted than they are when they apply for a job?
It's just astounding that the country has begun to think this Palin woman rattles a saber so well, they have to follow.
And what's the domestic policy? "Drill, baby, drill" while we all watch a hurricane with potentially twenty-foot storm surge inundate the most oil-centered coast of North America. No one, apparently, is even thinking about the ramifications of the bullying of Congress into offshore drilling.
We are all doomed.
