I took georgia10's call to action seriously. You did, too, right? Right?
Anyway, I suck at making phone calls. I learned that the hard way during the Dean campaign. But I don't do too badly with Letters to the Editor, so I went on my.barackobama.com, and then to my Dashboard where--much to my surprise and delight--I was given an assignment... with talking points!
So, in the interest of getting another Palin diary kicked off the list, and with the hope that someone else might be interested in reading what I wrote, here it is:
The bottom is falling out of our economy... literally. Those of us who are not rich are losing our ability to maintain a middle-class standard of living. Since our economy depends on middle-class purchasing power, everyone suffers when we suffer. As a professional counselor and the wife of a minister, I have seen our family's standard of living decrease rapidly in the past 8 years, to the point when things we used to take for granted (i.e., extended vacations, upscale restaurants, theater and concerts, etc.) are now luxuries we can rarely afford. We also have less money to donate to charities to help disaster victims and others who are needy. But our problems are connected to the problems all working families are experiencing, and the solution lies in strengthening the middle class as a whole.
An Obama administration will begin to turn this sad economic ship of state around. Obama will give a tax credit of up to $1,000 per working family, give college students a $4,000 tax credit so they can get the education that is the foundation of a strong economy and competitiveness in the global marketplace, end unfair tax breaks for companies that move overseas, and fight for a trade policy that supports American jobs. He will focus on workforce development.
If America is to survive as a premier economic power in the world, we all have to work together to make sure everyone in this country has the opportunity to fulfill his or her potential. A strong country is made of strong individuals who are connected by their country, their culture, and their values. Barack Obama gets it. He knows how to keep the bottom from falling out.
