Harrison Nebraska is closer to Casper, Wyoming than it is to Omaha, but Harrison is one more Nebraska community that Scott Kleeb has visited this year in his campaign to give every last Nebraskan a real choice this November.
That's what the 50-State strategy is all about. That's how committed Scott Kleeb is to bringing Nebraska's Brand of Change to the United States Senate:
Scott Kleeb has just completed a tour of rural Nebraska, highlighting the issues rural Nebraskans face from gas prices to stagnant wages to how factory closures impact local communities. As he has across Nebraska, Scott pointed to investments he would make in the rural economy to grow good-paying jobs in the towns where people live: investments in wind power and corn-based ethanol, investments in infrastructure and research into next-generation renewable energy.
Laura Larsen, the Regional Field Director for Scott in Nebraska's 3rd District knows that it will be tough for Scott to win over her district this November. It's one of the most Republican districts in the United States. Even so, Scott Kleeb won 45% of the vote in Nebraska's 3rd District in 2006.
Scott did that by talking to people where they lived about the issues they care about. That's the 50-State Strategy at its finest. That's giving the voters a real choice.
Now, it took George Bush, Dick Cheney and Dennis Hastert coming out to Nebraska's 3rd District to defeat Scott in 2006. This time around Scott is competing in all three of Nebraska's districts to succeed Chuck Hagel in the United States Senate. This is going to be a tough race and Scott can use all the help you've got.
However, here's an anecdote Laura told me from Scott's visit to Harrison, a town of 270. On a night where the local volleyball team had a game there were, nonetheless, 50 people at the event for Scott Kleeb in Harrison, and half of those were Republicans including some young ranchers who had heard about Scott's message to rural voters.
That's something to consider tonight as you think about poll numbers and your level of volunteering and grassroots activism this election season. The most important thing in politics is showing up and showing voters that you take them seriously.
Scott Kleeb gets that. Scott puts that into practice every day in Nebraska. In fact, people-centered politics is the life blood of Scott's Senate campaign.
Scott leads by listening, and it shows.
The residents of Harrison, Nebraska know.
