I want to recommend a web site. Yahoo News has a McClatchy News site called Inside Iraq, consisting of commentary by the Iraqi staff at the McClatchy Baghdad bureau. These are mostly short pieces about life in Baghdad, and more than anything I have read, give a clear picture of the daily life Iraqis deal with. The writers often manage to teach me something new, a new perspective, a new way to look at events.
I want to highlight a couple of paragraphs from two different articles by two different authors. The first is from September 8, and is written by Jenan. (For the authors' safety, full names are not used. It is called We don't need Iraqi Blackwater.
The guards of the minister of the displaced people and migrant opened fire randomly in downtown Baghdad. They killed a woman and injured six other civilians just because they wanted to open the street to pass quickly although the minister was not in the convoy. In Fact, he is not even in Iraq. The man is discussing the situations of the displaced Iraqi families in Ukraine. Isn't that odd? He is discussing the issue of the displaced families in Ukraine while his guards are killing innocent people in downtown Baghdad. The story reminded me of the crime of the Blackwater; the American private security company The only difference is the guards who opened fire we arrested. As an Iraqi; I really felt happy that the Iraqi forces responded quickly and arrested the guards and I hope to see them in court so soon.
The second is called 11th September and is written by Laith. He begins by condoling with the families of the victims, but then offers his own analysis of events.
The effects of that bloody day still shade the life of millions people who are paying the cost for crime in which they didn???t commit. They pay the cost for others' faults who still free in Afghanistan 's mountains and inside the dark politics rooms.
McClatchy does not edit the pieces, and so we get authentic Iraqi voices, piquant, ironic, angry, funny, sad. They are rewarding to read.
I hope those of you who do not already know it, will visit it soon.
