I was always a fan of the classic 90s comedy "Mad About You" with Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt. I also loved him--in a bad way--as the evil corporate guy in the second "Alien" film with Sigorney Weaver. So to my surprise and amazement of how Reiser so incredibly made clearer the tactics of McCain/Palin and that of Obama/Biden to a schoolyard. And his call to action is one I think most of us here at the Kos can do.
Check below the fold:
From the Huffington Post
So everyone's talking about the nasty spike of nastiness in the presidential race -- a spike brilliantly orchestrated by the Republican machinery -- and Republican John McCain takes a moment to point out that even this is Barack Obama's fault.
Y'see, all the crap being thrown at Obama -- the fear-mongering, the half-truths, the full lies -- all the character assassination hurling Obama's way, is in fact, his own doing.
"I think the tone of this whole campaign would have been very different if Senator Obama had accepted my request for us to appear in town hall meetings all over America," the Senator from Arizona tells us.
Am I just losing my friggin' mind? Seriously. I keep looking around the room to see if I'm living in some suddenly altered state where everything we know is now called the opposite, and nobody notices. Or can stop it.
"I wish I didn't have to take your lunch money, but you should'nt of hadda brung it."
This refreshing take on the whole "get meaner" call for Obama only illustrates the absurdity of this argument. Why denigrate ourselves to their level? Obviously this is the tactic they want us to use so they can throw it against us and thus win the playground. Rove, McCain, Bush, etc. have bullied the American people for so long to enjoy their schoolboy tactics it's entire time here and now they have control of McCain's campaign by putting their kind of woman on their ticket. Maybe it isn't just Obama alone who needs to stand up to the bully; it's not Joe Biden's job either. It is up to US to stand up to the bullying tactics of the Republicans and stand with knowledge and truth on our side. It is up to us to say it with our neighbors and family the bullies don't rule the playground anymore. Letters to the editor, clever on line points, and even an occasional visit to the "enemy's camp" (if you forgive my church reference there to an old camp meeting song) to confound foolishness with wisdom.
I agree with Reiser and think he has the right approach to dealing with the "bullies" our candidates have to face. It is the same ones we face here on the local level and maybe it's time we throw their hands in their faces and let them know "Hey, you're friend IS hitting our friend and we don't like it one bit!"
UPDATE: I had no idea I caused such a clatter when I posted it.I just got back from church with my daughter and man I thought I just gave Karl Rove a high five. (joking)
My intentions were not to plagiarize the piece but to give it a full viewing. I must have missed the limit of paragraphs I could add with an article from another source. For that and the taglines I apologize. No harm was meant by my posting and will be reflected in future diary entries.
So in all fairness here is the link the full article came from

Thanks to sardonyx for pointing that out to me.
