I don't know crap about economics. I read Bonddad and Jerome's posts occasionally. And mostly get overwhelmed by them.
I just read New Deal democrat's last Countdown to $100 Oil diary, and it got me thinking.
He's right. Just like 4 years ago, gasoline goes up, then retreats. Part of it is the difference between producing summer and winter gasoline. But it just really hurts to see things going well for the Democrats, and then see the price of oil go down and the polls slide toward the Republicans right along with it.
I expect that's one of the many things that will influence this election in the next month and a half.
But it's got me wondering about all the other factors. Wondering what the rest of the world thinks about this election. Who would the Chinese (who own so much of our debt) prefer? And what would they do to make it happen?
I generally only get somewhat paranoid, mostly in the 'what if' game. Mostly because I prefer to be evidence-oriented, and there's no way to find any evidence.
But it does seem to me that there's one sure way to get Obama elected. And that's to have the economy tank now rather than in a year. It seems to me that there are powerful people trying very hard to make sure that a complete meltdown is saved for next year. And other people trying really hard to makes sure that McCain is elected. And those two efforts seem to be coming from the same people.
This is just a rambling, off the top of my head set of thoughts.
It's just hard, considering all the different meltdowns and price spikes and rollercoaster we've had this summer, to not wonder if there's an economic war going on, and if it's an attempt to influence the election.
That's probably way too Hollywood/SF/thriller. I generally subscribe to the "there's more stupidity and less conspiracy" theory. But after seeing Greenspan on TV for just a moment, saying "this kinda thing only happens every 100 years" and yelling at the TV "Bullshit! You caused this, you ass!!!" I can't help but wonder what's going on with the big money players and which way they want this election to go. And what they're willing to do to make it happen.
