So there I was, wanting to throw a few words into an uncrowded blogosphere but kind of wondering what direction to go in.......so much to choose from -- McCains lies? Sarah Palin? Minority Leader Boehner blaming the Democrats for todays economic meltdown? Sarah Palin? The developing war between the Republicans and the media? Maybe Sarah Palin? Perhaps the lack of a border fence between Russia and Alaska? The small McCain crowds when it's not a McCain/Palin rally? Perhaps I could write a few words about Sarah Palin? Hardly anyone else has, why not me?
Then it hit me.....
First a bit of background..... I'm on leave -- a well deserved one at that if I don't say so --- for pretty much all of this month ( I gotta go in to the HQ I work at Wednesday, just so I know whats up when I do get back and do some paperwork, but other than that I am free to be a blogsloth for this month ) so I have had lot's of time to observe some the political 'drama' unfold this month.
And some of it's been, shall we say, interesting. Some of it's been of the norm for this type of season. Some of it's been absurdly silly ( how long will the McCain campaign stay with 'spokesman' Tucker Bounds? -- and why are guys named Tucker so chronicly geeky? And wrong? Do parents look at their newborn Republican litters and say "that ones a Tucker, that ones a mittens and we'll call the smart one Ralph"? )
But I digress. Much has been written, said and communicated about Sarah Palin ( but not much with -- given the cloak of invulnerability the GOP has thrown around her ). And, I am sure, much more will. After all, she could possibly be Vice President. ( assuming of course the Democratic Party electoral effort continues to feel that these guys won't do anything to get elected -- they will -- and refuses to get down into the muck that the GOP thrives on, manipulates so well, and can only be beaten in ) But what gave me pause was something I saw on the Daily Show.
There was a guest who has written a book on the Cheney Vice (?) Presidency. A book on a Vice Presidency? Since when did that happen? Most Vice Presidents who are even mentioned in history ascended to the top job ( Do not Al Gore me! _- he is the anomoly ) or resigned in disgrace ( REPUBLICAN SPIRO AGNEW -- just thought I'd mention that. Because they would ).
And this is what has me concerned. One book about a Republican Vice President is enough. We don't need to have an opportunity to read about the Palin Vice Presidency. The Cheney version is a horrific read enough. Just try to contemplate the Palin version. Probably written on slate and read by huddled masses by the light of a fire while eating dressed moose cooked on a stick.
So what to do? Whatever it takes to prevent a book about the Palin Vice Presidency --- even it means playing to their level. After all, I think we would all agree that we would be better off watching a documentry entitled " Whatever Became Of....."
