The Republican Presidential candidate selected a running mate who was in the second year of a first term as governor, and had finished a four year stint as executive of a minor governmental unit. At the Republican convention, many delegates wanted to select Governor Romney for the VP spot, but the Presidential candidate got his way in spite of the sentiment that his selectee was not qualified and wasn’t in the public eye long enough for people to know about the skeletons in the closet. During the campaign, the candidates ran as anti-establishment reformers, promising ‘peace with honor’ in ending the war.
If you’re over 45, that last line gave me away. I'm not talking about McCain/Palin, but about Nixon/Agnew. Agnew went on to plead no contest to corruption and accepting bribes in exchange for resigning. Nixon went on to claim that "I am not a crook!" before resigning.
Like Joe Biden is saying, "We've seen this movie before.".
