Once again, spent the day working for Barack in Easton, PA. Here's a little report.
The MOST instransigent, MOST entrenched demographic in northeastern urban PA, are those aged 65 and older. They are getting their information from social networks, and TV programs. They don't like Chris Matthews and are right now feeling somewhat blitzed by the media, the economy and sometimes, even our telephone calls.
However, I am here to tell you that many, MANY more older sixties are one hundred per cent in Obama's camp than were during the primaries. Most of the calls during the primaries yielded either an "Obama who?" or "I am really not interested in politics." Now, approximately thirty per cent of people who report on any one day are clearly for Senator Obama, and that's a modest estimate.
As far as we can tell, the only source of McCain networks are the large, fundamentalist churches in the area, and they do work hard.
However, I can also tell you, that there was not a minute when there were not several families, volunteers, working hard on telephone banks, data input, mailing out absentee ballot applications, and general office work. We were all in it together today, from Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and PA as well. We are working together, sharing notes about our experiences, both good and bad in canvassing, and working as a team like no other I have ever seen.
Results are happening, in our town, and in a few others around. We have lots of dislocated workers, homebound elderly, and generally people who are not earning anywhere near $250,000, let along ten percent of that.
And yet, they have a voice now, and many of our residents are determined to vote for Barack.
We intend to keep up the good work, and have events scheduled and growing, thanks to our excellent full-time staff, who get things rolling by being on the jobs from nine o'clock am to nine o'clock pm every day.
We are going to win this thing.
We have moved mountains here in PA. So whatever the polls are telling you, Pennsylvanians are deeply focussed on this race, and many have made the choice for Senator Obama.
