Last Sunday, here in the East Mountain area of New Mexico (the semi-rural back side of the Sandia Mountains east of ABQ) the Obama campaign opened (one of) it's newest field offices. There was a great turn-out, probably close to 100 people which is pretty good for our rural, often conservative area. Martin Heinrich, our candidate for Heather "Tears for Tit's" Wilson's old House seat was there (Heather lost the Senate primary... Heh!) as were several state congressional candidates, plus a semi-Official Democratic Donkey. Fortunately there are more donkeys than elephants in New Mexico and that's turning out to be the case in the polls, as well.
But the highlight of the afternoon was River:
This home-schooled 11 year-old, "one of the East Mountain's best campaigners," gave the best speech of the day, eclipsing even Martin Heinrich. Inspirational? Yep. If only the rest of the population had the drive and verve of this young man.
All in all it was a great afternoon! Here's a few extra photos:
The Obama donkey was there. Plus that's Martin Heinrich in the blue shirt:
This young lady, along with several much younger folks, was busily signing up volunteers for canvassing, registration and office duties.
Many thanks to Patrick Johnson and Barry Herrero for providing the video of River and posting it on the East Mountains for Obama email listserv.
Onward!
