The Murdoch Street Journal's Washington Wire seems to be the first to debut this charming piece of obvious McCain propaganda disguised as an issues ad, from a group called "Vets for Freedom" -- I'd rather not run the numbers up on this video, but it's past that point now, so better to be aware of it. The least I can do is put it below the fold:
Wait a minute, isn't it supposed to be wrong to use serving members of the military to score points in a political contest? Oh, that's right -- it's not an actual rule the unhinged right adheres to, it's a Republican double-standard they flout whenever they feel like it.
I noticed the same thing watching the Republican convention on C-SPAN: service members in uniform on the floor of the convention. Who was responsible for that? Someone should have been disciplined, but I'd be shocked if it happened. And I never heard anyone in the media ask a single question about it.
And remember when conservatives said they were against pointless activity in government? Once again they prove they don't mean anything they say: wasting taxpayer’s time and money by pushing this bill that does nothing aside from insisting "I told you so!"
But about this this bullshit ad for a moment -- it wants American voters to believe that Obama and Petraeus stand on opposite sides of a political divide vis-à-vis the Iraq war -- despite Obama's vocal support and admiration for our military, and despite the absurdity of positing a uniformed service member as a political figure.
Do they think we’re stupid? Do they think we want Obama to vote against himself?
Leave it the Republicans to reduce the complicated issues surrounding national security to a personal catfight between two public figures.
I wonder if General Petraeus likes being used as a tool of Swift Boaters. Don't you think somebody in the traditional media should ask him?
