Okay, I occasionally pick up a dead-tree version of the Politico on the way to work. Normally, I'm an online type, but...
Well, today's dead-tree version is worth it -- if only for the comedy value.
Their front-page coverage of the financial disaster that is Wall Street:
Banking Libbyists Fear for Their Jobs
Nice touch, WP! It only gets better, so follow me down...
So, now we have the tax payers getting fleeced after the banking industry and their lobbyists bought the republican party, who plotted out this disaster. They get the profit, we foot the bill. Sounds typical.
Of course, the politico story to emerge is concern about the lobbyists that may lose work out of this mess. No, they didn't mention the low level workers that would be affected, but it was a minor oversight I'm sure.
I'm also sure that we should all be concerned about the welfare of people who have personal relationships with senators and reps. They'll probably be unemployed for years, right? I guess, if you go by the politico's coverage.
On the inside, the story continues...
This joke of a front-page story get's even better, as we all know the dirty details always get buried in corporate media storytelling. There, they continue with the headline:
Outlook Not All Bad for Lobbyists
Here, we find more detail. And, we learn that they are guessing the increased heat on Wall Street will bring more legislative action, which equals financial firms increasing lobbying staff.
So, financial disaters litter Wall Street leads the Politico to front page a story which basically says that chairs will be re-ordered in the lobby jobs for who lead us there (with a sympathetic tone, of course.)
If the Politico is really an old media attempt at making inroads with online types, they are hopeless. Ahh, if this isn't a sign of the times...
