While John McCain is trying to act like a maverick and reformer, there's something very important he doesn't want Americans to know about the ecomonic crisis. He helped create it!
In 1933, Congress passed the Glass-Steagall Act, which regulated the banking industry and was put in place to prevent the events that lead to the Great Depression from happening again. The banking industry had been seeking deregulation and the repeal of Glass-Steagall since at least the 1980s (see McCain and Keating Five Scandal). In 1999 the Gramm-Leach-Biley act, with John McCain's full support, eliminated the barriers between industries that prevented the type of money mixing between banks and other financial institutions that created this crisis.
On Passage of the Bill (S.900 as amended) McCain votes YES: http://www.senate.gov/...
Notice something else? ALL the YEA's on the bill were Republicans. Wake up America! John McCain's most trusted economic adviser, Phil Gramm, designed this, John McCain supported it, and Republicans made it happen! Big Business over the American people, that's not fighting corruption, that's not change, that's George Bush and that's John McCain!
