In fact, it's dropping like the proverbial rock, folks. Like the proverbial rock.
In May of this year, the Field Poll showed, for the first time in California history, that more people opposed an amendment to the state constitution to block same-sex marriage than supported it.
In June, the Field Poll showed that 51% of all its respondents were against Proposition 8. 42% supported it, and 7% were uncertain as to which way they'd vote.
The latest Field Poll, released today (well, okay, technically yesterday - released on September 17), shows that 55% of its respondents are against Proposition 8. Only 38% now support it, and 7% remain uncertain.
Yesterday, September 17, was the three-month anniversary of my husband's and my wedding. Folks, this is great news. Support for this hateful proposition is eroding like a sand castle in a wave.
In short: we're winning, folks.
Yesterday morning, I woke up and greeted my husband with a kiss, and reminded him that it was our three-month'versary. He smiled and said "And we haven't killed each other yet."
Later on that morning, I read through my diary from our wedding day. It brought me laughs and tears as I read through the comments, and read some of them to him, too.
Last night, we got to tell my kids that it was our three-month'versary. Both of them squealed and clapped. "Has it really been that long?" Agent Pokemon said. "You gotta be kidding me!"
The last three months, folks, have been heaven. You guys helped make that heaven possible, for which I thank you.
Today's Field Poll news just makes me that much happier. Keep fighting the good fight against bigotry and hate. I'm now almost positive that we're going to win this. But we need to fund the continuing fight, if we're going to make sure of that victory.
So, if you can, please donate to EQCA's fight. My husband and I are registered there, if you want to donate through their wedding registry (you can donate in our names).
This is great news. You're making it possible. Slowly but surely, the tide is turning, so let's erode that sand castle even more.
Soon, I hope to live in a nation where my rights are protected and my marriage is recognized from coast to coast. Let's make that possible, for all GLBT couples everywhere.
