Today's gaffe by Sarah Palin was a "two-fer" in that first, she basically endorsed something that Barack Obama has already gotten passed, but also shot a huge hole in John McCain's attack line that Sen. Obama hasn't once reached across the aisle during his tenure in the Senate.
More below the fold:
Today in Cedar Rapids, IA, Gov. Palin told the crowd (emphasis added):
"We’re going to do a few new things also," she said at a rally in Cedar Rapids. "For instance, as Alaska’s governor, I put the government’s checkbook online so that people can see where their money’s going. We’ll bring that kind of transparency, that responsibility, and accountability back. We’re going to bring that back to D.C."
As CNN, who reported this story, notes:
There’s just one problem with proposing to put the federal checkbook online – somebody’s already done it. His name is Barack Obama.
As I said above, this is a "two-fer", but really, this is a "three-fer" of a gaffe because not only does she not know what is already being done in Washington (by Sen. Obama no less), but she wound up, without meaning to, giving Obama props for solving a problem in Washington AND she shot John McCain's entire campaign arguement that Barack Obama has not done one thing in Washington where he reached across the aisle.
The bill in question, the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006, S.2590, was introduced by Tom Coburn (R-OK) and co-sponsored, among others, by Barack Obama (D-IL).
As I said, its great when they screw up, try to take credit for yet another of Obama's slogans or ideas, and then have it backfire on them by highlighting what Barack Obama has really done in Washington up until now!
