The "I'm not qualified, I'm just popular" GOP vice presidential candidate gleefully spent $26 million of YOUR money to build a 3.2 mile road from a small international airport on Gravina Island to link up to the now (hopefully forever) extinct and infamous Bridge to Nowhere. More from the Los Angeles Times (!) story after the fold.
This morning's Times includes an article by Erika Hayasaki with a dateline from Gravina Island, Alaska. This is what she has to say about the "road to nowhere."
Some residents of Ketchikan -- a city of 8,000 on a neighboring island where the bridge was to end -- see the road as a symbol of wasteful spending that Palin could have curtailed. Some of them even accuse her of deception.
"Surely we won't have to commute on the highway if there won't be a bridge," said Jill Jacob, who has been writing and calling the governor's office for the last two years to protest the road. "It's a dead-end highway, a dead-end road."
C'mon all you so-called "conservatives" - quotes intended. I'm talking to you folks who believed Bush when he promised to get government off the backs of the people. You gonna believe Palin, who is one smooth-talking politician, or this damned expensive scrape in the ground. Admit it. The woman is a bald-faced spend thrift in the mold of your basic self-serving functionary. History is replete with her ilk. Anything to win. Anything for more power. Anything. And at taxpayer expense. Just like her man W, she will spend this country into servitude. And for what purpose?
Cut the crap. She may think she is patriotic, but I'll call it the way I see it. Her behavior fits the definition: the selfish desire for money, wealth, power or other possessions, especially when this denies the same goods to others. Greed. It's all about more. A trillion dollars. Our children's future. And she wants more.
Let's end this in November.
