At the DNC, Bob Casy had that great line ...
That's not a Maverick. That's a sidekick.
I get it, link McCain and Bush.
But really, McCain is much worse. Even more out of touch - if that is even possible...
So I have a new line.
What is really going on is that McCain is a sell out.
The Nation called him out on selling out of his fellow POW's. The Nation had this to say yesterday.
John McCain, who has risen to political prominence on his image as a Vietnam POW war hero, has, inexplicably, worked very hard to hide from the public stunning information about American prisoners in Vietnam who, unlike him, didn't return home. Throughout his Senate career, McCain has quietly sponsored and pushed into federal law a set of prohibitions that keep the most revealing information about these men buried as classified documents. Thus the war hero who people would logically imagine as a determined crusader for the interests of POWs and their families became instead the strange champion of hiding the evidence and closing the books.
If he sells out on his fellow POW's, who else is he selling out?
He is selling out the other military families in this war by telling them that he is so opposed to war. And yet, he's ready to bomb bomb bomb Iran, ready to sabre rattle with Russia and Spain (spain?).
He is selling out the American people when we have to pick up the tab for his political party's economic agenda.
And he is selling out the health care and social security of this nation when his plans for both require opening up both to privitazation.
McCain's proposal for health care as of this very month - you can read it this month in Contingencies - http://www.contingencies.org/ - or you can see a preview in pdf form at http://www.contingencies.org/...
Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.
So
That's not a Maverick. That's a a Sell Out.
That's the guy that will sell out the country ... first.
