I was for Gore in 2000 and made up the McCain2000 moniker a couple weeks ago. I did so because I thought there was an opportunity to nail just who and what John McCain represents: a pity.
A pity he didn't win on his own terms in 2000. A pity he got crushed by the Rove smear machine. A pity we had Bush instead of him for 8 years. And, now, when it's just too late for him to be effective, it's a pity he's had to sell his soul to the evangelical base and the deregulator base just to keep in the race.
So, let's go all passive-aggressive on his ass and pity him for his missed opportunity while we point out where he's missing the boat on each issue. No better way to draw the stinger of his POW record than with a sympathetic shrug for the chance he lost in 2000.
Update:
I guess sarcasm doesn't translate well to the diary form. I'm proposing the above solely as a campaign strategy. It sweetens the message that works well that both McCain and Palin are out of touch. I know he was wrong back in 2000 too, and it's a tragedy Gore didn't win.
So, can we comment on the strategy?
