This is a short diary. I'm seeing diaries posted discussing how catastrophic and corrupt the proposed Paulson is, and how Senator Obama has come out against it.
But I think it's really important to focus on pressing Congress to follow Obama, and NOT be frightened and threatened by the Bush administration (yet again) into capitulating to something most of them probably realize is wrong.
For those of us in safe states with limited opportunities to canvas, especially, let us put our energy, at least for the next few days, into advocating for an appropriate and effective, as well as fast, response.
The Democrats in Congress have a pretty bad track record when it comes to cowardice in the face of lies and threats from Bush. I want a Democratic Congress (even a passive one is better than an active Republican one.) But I really want change, course correction, and progressive action.
I'd like health care policy improved, frankly, because right now my doctor and I and trying to decide how likely a symptom I've suffering from means I might die soon, since the test to diagnosis the problem costs thousands of dollars and my insurance company (to which I have paid a lot of money for almost a decade) won't cover even a tiny piece of it.
Many of you I'm sure are already suffered from the effects of Republican and neocon nonsensical notions. If this plan passes in its current form, most of the rest of the country is likely to be negatively impacted.
Congress needs to know they are being elected to bring change, and that we expect them to follow the leader of their party -- Senator Obama -- and REALLY put the country first, by doing what's in the best interests of the American people, rather than cravenly calculating what will help them protect their seat.
I have started sending emails, but I plan on doing calls in the morning, on the theory that the annoyance factor of a call gives it special power. Others who post here probably know better what is most effective.
I was THRILLED by Senator Obama's plan. (It's outlined on his campaign site blog; I'm in too much of rush to learn how to do a link right now, but but other posters have included it.) It lays out the key issues well. We can stop Bush this time, if we rally behind the Democratic nominee.
Yes We Can!
