Democrat Barack Obama leads Republican John McCain in Florida by 2 percentage points in a new Mason-Dixon poll, but with a margin of error of 4 points, the survey essentially shows the race as a dead heat.
About 47 percent of the 625 likely voters said if the election were held today said they would vote for Obama. McCain got 45 percent. About 7 percent were undecided.
The poll shows little movement since August, the last time Mason-Dixon polled the state. That poll had Obama up 45-44.
The new numbers show the candidates virtually tied in the Intestate 4 corridor, an area likely to decide the race in Florida. It puts McCain up 49-42 in Central Florida and Obama ahead 49-43 in Tampa-St. Pete.
