Just got in from one of our weekly neighborhood chats. Several of us neighbors get together outside on a nice cool evening and discuss children, the weather and of course now politics. I was blown away tonight.
The discourse started out calmly enough, how's the kids, how's the job, did you hear about the economy yada, yada, yada, then I brought up the idea that Barack Obama has a great plan and is hands down the best candidate to try to correct this downturn our country has been in.
Three of my neighbors looked at me and then one said "Well I am voting for McCain because I don't think a black man can help this country." The other two standing there nodded their heads in agreement. The first question out of my mouth was "What does the color of his skin matter, he speaks to the truth of what is really happening in the markets and his calm collective dialog this past week shows what type of leader he would be." Then one of the other neighbors piped up, "Well McCain picked Sarah Palin and she ran her state so well he has all the support he needs."
Well that was it, I went into the facts on how unqualified Sarah Palin is to not only be the Leader of Alaska but has no, not 1 iota of any qualifications to be a heart beat away from leading our nation. Oh well, then I was blasted as listening to the liberal media and we needed to give Sarah a chance. I then commented on how this race was not about Sarah, but more to the fact that this FAKE maverick was actually working for the same people that put us into this mess not only now but during the Keating Five scandle. Well they looked at me like I had just called their momma a bad name and one said, "what is the Keating Five?" I said look it up, those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.
Oh Well, I can only hope the the rest of the state of North Carolina is not drinking this same brand of kool-aid.
Update: Thanks for all of your suggestions.
