(expanded from a comment in Meteor Blades' diary...)
So. George W. Bush will address the nation tonight. He'll come out of hiding in the White House. He'll take a quick break from doing (ssshhhh!) lots of fundraising for the GOP and its candidates.
He'll step in front of the American people and try to scare us, again. This time he'll try to scare us into forking over $750 billion of our tax money, immediately, no questions asked. He will take no responsibility, he will accept no questions. Only FEAR allowed here, citizens.
And -- as we've already seen -- the Republican party will start calling this rape of the American taxpayer the "Bush-Pelosi Bailout."
They want the Democratic party saddled with the Bush brand. They want progressives to be stuck with Mr. 19% Popularity, for now and for all of history... which they're always busy revising.
To HELL with that.
Dear Republican Party:
George W. Bush is YOURS. All yours. You own him, now, for all of history... for infinity, and beyond, to quote Buzz Lightyear.
This phenomenon of uber-failure, this amazingly unpopular, feckless creep loathed by most of America...
All YOURS.
We get it. We see you. You're doing it in plain sight. We all get that you're trying to shift the blame for George W. Bush to Democrats, liberals, and just about everyone else in the world... but no sale. We won't let you do it. Ever. Ever. EVER.
We all saw you try to hide this hated President a few weeks ago in St. Paul. You actually cancelled the first night of the convention and pretended to (suddenly) give a damn about people getting hurt by hurricanes, rather than face the prospect of George W. Bush on national TV, addressing your convention. You expected us to forget this night, just four short years ago, where you were deeply in love with George W. Bush:
Yes, you Repulbicans treated George W. Bush as the second coming of Christ -- quite literally, with the oh-so-obvious cross on his heavenly pulpit (oh, and listen to what YOU REPUBLICANS are cheering him on about in the 30 seconds or so):
But now George W. Bush, Republican President, has been deeply unpopular -- historically unpopular -- for YEARS. You're running away from your hero. You're starting to claim that George W. Bush wasn't a "real" conservative -- in fact, why, come to think of it, he was actually kinda-sorta a LIBERAL. Hey yeah -- I like the sound of that!!!
But we will not let you forget George W. Bush. We will not let this country forget that George W. Bush was the HERO of the Republican party for years, and embodied its every single value. George W. Bush had the full support of every single one of you, for years. You kissed his ass every day, in every way you could, even after he ignored the warning "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S." a mere MONTH before 9/11, and went on a six week vacation. Then he -- and you -- climbed on top of the mountain of dead bodies caused by his negligence, and used the murder of our citizens to begin destroying this country with your rightwing agenda, which had exactly nothing to do with protecting the country (or else you might have actually tried, you know, protecting his country). Hundreds of thousands more dead bodies later, we have this economic "crisis" that most on the left saw coming years ago.
Thanks to you. Thanks to you and your Republican leader, George W. Bush.
We won't be saddled with this crappy, un-American, criminal President who rode your shoulders to victory in 2000 and 2004. We tried like hell to keep him away from the White House, but you, the party of Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, Newt Gingrich, and George W. Bush -- made it into a war. Literally. You said that those who were disloyal to George W. Bush were traitors.
I say you had it exactly backwards. You put the good of the Republican party, and your love of George W. Bush, WAY ahead of what's good for America.
So...
We won't let this country forget that George W. Bush ran as a Republican, was elected as a Republican, stood for everything that IS Republican, and ran this country as a Republican, with nothing but help from the rest of you Republicans. We won't let anyone forget that. That's a goddamned guarantee.
George W. Bush is a Republican President who had a Republican Congress for six years. He got everything he wanted.
This is the result.
