What a fiasco over Sarah Palin and the media yesterday! Her first meeting with foriegn leaders and all HELL breaks loose. Then John McCain decided to hold an 11 minute press conference for the first time in weeks. After serious thought, I have concluded that the McCain/Palin campaign is following the "don't ask don't tell" policy of the military. Media-don't ask and we won't tell you anything.
I'm not saying it's a winning tactic, but it appears that they have sequestured Palin from even the remote chance that she might open her mouth around the press.
ABC News' Kate Snow reports: The McCain campaign tried to limit access to Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin today as she met with world leaders in New York.
For a time this morning, the McCain-Palin campaign refused to allow any editorial presence -- no reporters or producers -- to go with a network pool camera to take pictures of Palin meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.
They compromised later, but again limited her exposer to 20 seconds.
McCain has been AWOL (as opposed to POW) with the press for weeks.
From the Huffington Post:
This afternoon, John McCain gave his first press conference in nearly six weeks, answering only a few questions and totally punting on the most important issue facing the country: the need to help average American families hit hard by the economy.
On the bailout package, McCain said that he thinks a bailout must be must be enacted soon, warning of dire consequences if Congress fails to act.
On the question of whether taxpayers must be protected and whether there must be oversight, McCain adopted the key points of Barack Obama's plan.
Unlike Obama, however, McCain offered no plan to put in place new regulations that would prevent a crisis like this from ever happening again.
With McCain's poll numbers falling, their "don't ask, don't tell" policy has been a real......well don't ask.
