What does a good Republican do when faced with a damning report about your main campaign manager? Throw the scent of the dogs chasing you in another direction of course!
I think McCain is doing this very thing right now with this suspension of his campaign. And the media fall for it (like they did with Palin, and everything else). Now that he has done this, who will question whether McCain will fire Rick Davis or whether McCain will apologize for lying just this Sunday about Rick Davis' relationship with Fannie Mae. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
We've seen this strategy before. It is not new. Will we fall for it too? Sadly we will, because the flow of news is like the movement of a flock of migratory birds. When enough birds shift the direction, the rest fall through and get in line. Because if you don't, you fall behind.
The McCain campaign has mastered the use of this shock strategy, and they will continue to use it until the very end. I forget who said it, maybe Josh Marshall, but this is like a soccer player faking an injury late in the game just to distract and change momentum.
So let's keep up the pressure on the media to not forget to ask John McCain what he intends to do about the lie regarding Rick Davis.
