Rep. James Clyburn just appeared on MSNBC and stated that there was no reason for McCain to suspend his campaign or postpone the debate as he and his colleagues have already worked on the bailout issue for a week and that this was just an instance of "Drama" on part of the McCain campaign.
Today, we saw another example of the "Look over HERE!" campaign of distraction that the McCain has run to mis-direct the attention of voters that has resulted in Sarah Palin and lipstick on a pig. There is no sound reason why Washington needs to have back a completely politicized McCain to gum up the works even more and it can be argued that McCain and Obama returning to the Senate would cause more gridlock due to the enormous political stakes involved and the attendent posturing and maneuvering. The media needs to call out McCain for this incredible piece of political grandstanding that works against progress on any financial rescue bill. The American people will have to choose a new President in less than 50 days and for McCain to hide in plain sight by proposing to postpone the debates is just wrong. The media needs to urgently call out McCain on this.
Update:
"Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said there's already a process in place to continue negotiations, and it "would not be helpful at this time to have them come back during these negotiations and risk injecting presidential politics into this process or distract important talks about the future of our nation's economy. If that changes, we will call upon them. We need leadership; not a campaign photo op."
