Economy: CRISIS
McCain: PANIC
Obama: Cool, calm and collected
In most election years, we're bombarded with the usual misleading ads and empty promises by the candidates. But this year is remarkable because we saw first hand exactly how McCain and Obama respond to a crisis.
America finds itself in a "once in a century economic crisis" that "threatens to be another Great Depression."
John McCain's response? PANIC!
Actually, denial came first as he claimed "the fundamentals of our economy are still strong!" In a few hours, he decided the economy was "in crisis."
Soon after his flip-flop on the state of the economy, he spoke out against the bail out of AIG, then flip flopped again by voicing his support for it.
His next idea was to fire the SEC chairman. Too bad for McCain this "off with their heads" mentality is NOT something the president is empowered to enforce.
He followed this misstep with finger pointing by irrationally and incorrectly placing the blame on Obama.
Finally, McCain called a time out and tried to score political points by suspending his campaign to attend to the crisis... admitting that he had not yet read the proposed resolution (which is a mere 3 pages long).
These maneuvers prove that McCain is not only unstable in his temperament during a crisis, but apparently unable to handle more than one task at once.
Barack Obama's response? Calm, reassuring, and presidential.
He moved swiftly to arrange a strategy session with his colleagues. He then announced 5 principles that must be met in order for a deal to be reached. All 5 points benefit middle class tax payers. He was the first to call for bipartisan efforts to quickly arrive at a fair and effective deal.
Fortunately for voters, the past few weeks have proven at least one fact in this campaign: Obama is the man America needs in the White House during a crisis.
