For seven and a half long years they have bullied us in the PA 9th District. They question our patriotism, our commitment to family, to county, to life. We really shouldn’t be surprised that when their policies lead to disaster that they runaway and hide. I’m not talking about John McCain, although I could be. I’m talking about one William Franklin Shuster (R PA09). You remember Bill Shuster from ABC TV piece about Republicans whooping it up in St. Paul before the RNC. Shuster was at Former Tom Delay aide turned lobbyist Glen LeMunyon’s shindig featuring the band "Hookers and Blow". Here is our commercial hitting him for that folly.
I’m really writing to talk about debates. More after the break
But I’m not writing this post to talk about Shuster getting caught hanging with lobbyists,
Truth is that was more for your entertainment and if you’d like to support us and keep this spot on the air, we’d appreciate it.

Avoiding debates after all this economic turmoil are the actions of bullies who have been punched in their nose. They know that after 8 years of the reckless irresponsible nonsense that has sadly passed for monetary policy they can’t win a debate on the economy and since most debates regardless of the stated topic end up on the economy, the only solution for GOPers is not to debate.
Are Republicans pussing out of debates where you live or is it just Shuster?
Tony Barr had this to say:
"We were disappointed but not surprised to learn that Bill Shuster has declined not one invitation to debate but four. Altoona radio WRTA, WJAC-TV Johnstown (which has significant viewer ship in the 9th District) The Uniontown Herald Standard and the League of Women Voters have all issued invitations to both the Barr and Shuster campaigns and the Barr campaign has accepted all of them, the Shuster campaign has declined all of them.
Due to the fact that the League of Women Voters event was scheduled on a Sunday, when Congress is almost never in session, (Oct 12th, a Steelers bye-week as a matter of fact) we find the given explanation why he declined these invitations less than convincing.
Shuster recently issued a limited press release arguing that the financial crisis precludes him from taking to the time to come before his constituents.
We beg to differ. In our view, debates are now more necessary than ever. Due to the complete and utter failure of Bush/Shuster monetary and banking policies, the United States Government is now about to spend about a Trillion dollars in bailouts. The public, who will have to foot the bill, deserve to know why and how this money will be spent. The public deserves all sides of the story concerning this bailout. The public deserves to hear what the Tony Barr wants to do about this, the public deserves to know what the Bill Shuster wants to do about this.
For seven and a half years, Bill Shuster sold the voters of the 9th district on the proposition that all we had to do was get government out of the way and there would be prosperity for all. For six of the last seven and a half years, Bill Shuster voted for every financial deregulation bill that came down the pike. It is the rampant and irresponsible deregulation, that Bill Shuster voted for, that has led to this disaster. Bill Shuster owes the voters of the 9th district an explanation.
Recently, I released my ideas to bring jobs to the 9th district. Among those ideas was a commitment to strengthen and enforce banking regulations. At the time, Shuster scoffed at this idea. In light of certain recent events, I think Mr. Shuster owes the people of the 9th district an explanation. Mr. Shuster owes the people of the 9th district the courtesy to show up and debate.
It is clear that Bill Shuster’s campaign strategy is now to run away to Washington, hoping that voter registration will save his skin and what sadly passes for a career in Congress. I humbly urge the voters of the 9th district not to reward Bill Shuster’s incompetence and cowardice with their vote."
A few timing facts, Shuster copped out of the debate on Tuesday night, McCain started his campaign suspension nonsense on Wednesday. Local right-wing papers are connecting the two events, like John McCain put an end to politics for a day or so. Is it just me or is being a wimp part of the GOP platform this year?
