Short diary, but interesting to see this play out.
Nancy Pelosi is hoping for GOP votes to cover the Democrats politically as they pass a bill that will be hugely unpopular.
But the GOP rank and file are not going to play ball. This will probably set up an opportunity for McCain to position himself as the populist savior who fought for the little man against Wall Street, Obama and the east coast liberal establishment.
The article linked to below quotes several GOP congressmen who seem to be itching to either change the deal brokered today, or scuttle it.

"House GOP: We have leverage on bailout
House Republicans say they have significant leverage on the revamped bailout package, claiming that Democrats will scramble for votes unless they make changes to it. Republicans in the lower chamber are balking at the bailout package, saying that Democrats will be solely responsible for the ramifications of what they see as a flawed compromise...."
McCain would probably prefer the deal gets passed as is. That way he can start campaigning as a defender of Main Street.
