So just the other day I identified six key Senate races that are worthy of your help. The idea being that most races are statistically over and not worthy of further campaign donations at the expense of more winnable tickets. By diverting resources from sure wins (Dick Durbin in IL) and sure losses (the WY races) to close, winnable races we can maximize our victories. And by maximize, I mean get to the filibuster-proof magic number of 60 Democratically caucusing seats.
Well, apparently things have changed since yesterday - good and bad. The good is that Bruce Lunsford is catching up with Mitch McConnell in his race in Kentucky. The bad news is that Jeanne Shaheen has slipped in her poll numbers and is now trailing incumbent John Sununu in New Hampshire.
There is now less than six weeks to go to election day. And if you're looking for a way to help, you should take a close look at these races. Because if you want real change, President Obama will need a cooperative Senate - one that isn't constantly thwarted by Republican filibusters - as Bill Clinton faced at the beginning of his first term in office.

Out of the Essential Eight, four are currently in the lead: Mark Begich (AK), Mark Udall (CO), Kay Hagin (NC), and Jeff Merkley (OR). However, their leads are small and could easily flip back the other way.
Then there are four other races where the Democrat is lagging, but within striking distance: Al Franken (MN), Jeanne Shaheen (NH), Ronnie Musgrove (MS), and Bruce Lunsford (KY).
If you have some money to give, make a contribution towards these candidates today. I set up a single page at ActBlue.com where you can quickly contribute to just these eight candidates. Click Here to give.
But even better than money, is your time. If you live in or near these eight states, get out and start pounding the pavement to help get people registered to vote, and to help get people to the polls, to vote early, or vote by mail.
For state-by-state information on important deadlines, rules, and paperwork information check out the Rock the Vote Election Center by clicking here. Remember that in many states voter registration deadlines are coming in only about a week. So get out now! This weekend would be perfect!
For the best bang for the buck, consider where you should be to find unregistered, democratically leaning voters. You're neighborhood may not be the best place to be if you live on a red street. Find the blue neighborhoods and go there - knock on doors, set up registration tables at grocery stores, etc. Barack Obama's web site has a wonderful Action Center where you can get a walk list of folks to visit or other activities to participate in - click here.
