Chapman informed the state Democratic Party in a letter that if they want to see a current version of the voter list they will have to pay $28,000 for a copy. Mind you, Tennessee only charges $2,500 for a voter list, Georgia charges $500, and Florida charges only $10.
So the $28,000 question is why should any organization or individual have to pay that kind of money to look at a current copy of the voter list? What's the voter list held on -- gold leaf? Or is something wrong with that list that somebody does not want seen, like, oh, I dunno, a massive purge?
Are we in for a Katherine Harris-styled surprise in November? Whatever is the case, something stinks to high heaven about this situation and, sut as in the Siegelman case, it merits much greater attention and focus here in the cradle of the Voting Rights Movement.
