It's time we start talking about Barack Obama winning this election in terms of a landslide by aggressively promoting the point that Obama may win this by 15 points or more and carry nearly 40 states. (This does not mean we get overconfident or put the rubber soles away. To the contrary our mindsets are it's a tie ballgame and we need every last vote so get get it.)
We promote this talking point not because it may indeed turn out to be true but because it creates the perception that Obama has passed all these "tests" while McCain's campaign is just a joke and Sarah Palin is about as intellectually qualified to be President as Miss Teen South Carolina.
The reasons why Obama may win by 15 points are as follows:
- George W Bush is the worst President in American history.
- John McCain represents a 3rd Bush term.
- Sarah Palin is the most unqualified VP selection by a major party ever.
- Obama on substance/issues is where most Americans are.
- Obama wins the image game the same way Reagan could win it over Carter and Mondale.
- McCain comes across as a nasty, condescending jerk (Like Dukakis) and the American people don't like that image in a President.
- The Republicans have FUBARed our economy.
- The Republicans have FUBARed foreign policy and still refuse to capture and kill Osama Bin Laden.
- Voting demographics have changed dramatically the last 4 years.
- Obama simply needed to pass one last real/imaginary test with undecided voters commonly called the "presidential material test" as the newcomer. He passed that test Friday night with flying colors.
I've been consistent with my belief that Obama may win this by 15 not because I'm wild-eyed but because the underlying fundamentals of this election are overwhelmingly in Obama's favor and if it all played out as I envisioned months ago (and by and large it is happening although I never expected the gift commonly known as Miss Teen South Carolina) the landslide would be on.
Let the discussion be about whether Obama wins by 10 or 15. This way, even if he only wins by 5, we're still in business.
