First, let me say that Hank and I are hardly unbiased with regards to Christopher: he's our son-in-law! My Hank's daughter, my step-daughter, Julie Heath Schaeffer, married a good man, and Chris's knows he married a darn good woman. (He better!) That being said, I'm going to let Chistopher speak for himself.
Update: Facebook is making Frankenbot crash. If you go to Facebook and type Chris Schaeffer, his NY senate group will come up. I think Facebook hates me.
Meet him below the fold:
Chris Schaeffer, in his own words:
As I’m sure everyone is painfully aware, New York State has the second highest taxes in the nation. Now the state government has done a wonderful job in the past few years of cutting state taxes with out cutting services. They used a very simple formula to achieve this; they simply cut funding to local government and require them to continue offering services at the same level. This has worked wonderfully and state taxes have been lowered. This little smoke and mirrors trick however did not provide any relief for us taxpayers. It only changed which tax collector we are paying our outrageous taxes to. Now local governments have been forced to raise taxes to meet the obligations the state has forced on them. Our county governments, our municipal governments and our school systems have all been directly affected by the states unfounded mandates. We need to demand real change and not accept more smoke and mirrors.
District 57 is comprised of Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegheny and Livingston counties, and is (IMHO) one of the most beautiful areas in New York State.
His challenger, is Republican Catharine M. Young. You'd never know she was a Republican by her site, as she's obviously distanced herself from her own party. You can find her website here, and it has a listing bills she supported. Color me unimpressed.
One thing Cathy Young did not support is the Pledge for Change in New York: Mack Albany Work for the People. I'm proud to say Chris took the Pledge!
His site and his blog will give you more information on a young man I know to be down-to-earth, honest and always has his eyes on the future and how to make it better. He has always been active in community affairs, and I know this is just the beginning of a great political career for Chris. /unabashed bias
