Whether you like the idea of the bailout or not, Barack Obama's reaction to the craziness in Washington should make you feel a bit better. While the media is telling us that this is the beginning of the end, House republicans are blaming democratic partisanship, and the dems are blaming republicans, Barack Obama calmly and cool just made us all feel a bit more sane.
Speaking in Denver, he just had a great few moments of reflection and honesty, and put this crisis into reasoned and optimistic perspective.
According to the Denver Post, Obama said:
"Things are never smooth in Congress," he tells an overflow crowd in the gymnasium at a Westminster high school. "It's going to be rocky, it's sort of like flying into Denver. You know you're going to land, but it's not always fun going over those mountains."
I don't know about you, but having read doom and gloom articles all over the place today (like this one and this one), and then seeing the CNBC team pretty much claiming that the world was coming to an end, Obama's ability to bring humor and reason just made me feel a lot better.
Update
Obama continues to be calm, cool, and reasoned, calling for Washington to essentially grow-up...
Sen. Barack Obama called for "adult supervision" in Washington. He said that Sen. John McCain has had a failed philosophy for 26 years in Washington.
"He's fought against common-sense regulations for decades, he's called for less regulation twenty times just this year, and he said in a recent interview that he thought de-regulation has actually helped grow our economy. Senator, what economy are you talking about?" he said. The audience stomped in the bleachers.
