News about and vetting of Palin is fine and stories are expected. But, I am really sick of the Gossip.
24/7 all I've seen and heard about is Palin. That would not be so bad but, 90 percent of it is rumor mongering and gossip.
Nothing is said much about McCain and his appalling lack of judgment. His massive failure in his first and most important test as the nominee of a major party.
It is very disappointing.
The cable news and papers have numerous articles about the republican veep pick. Some focuses on her background and general vetting. A few on McCain's campaign's failure to vet. But, some is also the tawdry gossip stuff that is straight out of Tabloid.
Unfortunately, since this past weekend most of us have become almost nothing but, tabloid.
Some say this is democracy. Fair enough. But, is small town gossiping and the nonsensical stuff about her time on High School sports teams, if she got in a fight with this or that co worker really democracy. Or just juicy gossip dressed up as vetting because she is a republican.
We have spent so many years ripping on the right for this kind of behavior. That they never discuss or look at important things but, more at promoting sleazy gossip and smears about democrats.
We have vowed over and over to ourselves that we would never allow ourselves to act like the rightwing, freeper types who seem to be more about smears then the real issues.
It is fair to look at the woman's record as a mayor and governor. It is fair to look at her knowledge of foreign and domestic policy. It is fair to see if there are black marks on that record. Troopergate is about abuse of power made even more urgent by the actions of the Bush Administration over the past 8 years.
But, things have deteriorated to diaries being written questioning Palin's mothering, why is she having a career instead of staying home full time, ect. Really? What if those diaries were about Hillary or Michelle Obama questioning whether they should have had a career while having young children. Even if they had several and one had a handicap.
Are they questioning Palin because she has a R after her name and what does it say about progressive thinking and it's support of feminism?
I want to win the White House this year very bad. I want a majority of democrats in congress and the senate. I especially want an Obama presidency because I have invested money and time and alot of emotion into this candidacy. I see Obama getting elected to our best chance to finally know a potentially great president. And to change the 30 year rule of Conservatism in this country under which I've spent my adult life.
But, I want the election to be on issues and substance. About something more then if Palin got in a cat fight with a fellow PTA member.
The republicans are desperate to avoid talking about issues. They even have made statements that this election is about everything but. And the people are saying that is the most important thing to them in this election. They keep wanting more details about policy and this is the first time I've seen the average voters demanding this in overwhelming numbers.
They are sick of the culture wars, of swiftboating and other things. They are scared and going broke. They want and need this to be about the issues and details.
Also, the tawdry gossip gets old very fast. How about we stop obsessing on the unimportant things and focus on what is important like Palin's record and McCain's fitness to be president and lack of judgment.
I think it is far past time to move on.
