So this diary will be short but I just wanted to draw your attention on the way the news of our Attorney General's pregnancy (Garde des Sceaux or Ministre de la justice in French), Rachida Dati, broke here today.
There had been rumors for weeks now and she went public today stating:
"There is no reason I should slow down or stop my work as Attorney General. This is not a disease."
And she added when asked about who the father is (she's not married):
My private life is complicated and is off limits. I will not comment on this.
Although I'm not a big fan at all of her politics (I strongly disagree with most of the time), I certainly respect her for wanting to keep her private life... ummm... private.
Here is more information on her:
Name: Rachida Dati
Born: 27 november 1965 (this is her first pregnancy; she said she waited to be sure the pregnancy would go well before breaking the news).
She is French by le droit du sol (born in France), her parents are Morrocan and Algerian. Hence she as three nationalities (and still can be Attorney General).
I don't know where she stands religiously. Her parents are probably Muslim. She went to school in a private Carmelite school before going to a public high school. This is just not an issue here.
She has been Attorney General since 19 june 2007.
So it's in the news here with journalist saying things like "Oh, by the way... Rachida Dati is pregnant. The rumors were true. She won't say who the father is."
Of course, she's not the 17 yo daughter of a candidate to the US Vice-Presidency but still. Privacy and the respect of it is appreciable.
I just wrote this because I feel sorry for Bristol Palin, she doesn't deserve all the attention. I wish the news would focus more on the issues, and her mother's disastruous record.
