Karl Rove has distracted the electorate one more time from the real issues facing America with his team getting McCain to select Sarah Palin.
A simple search under "Palin Creationism" or similar combinations of words reveals many comments like the following:
In a 2006 gubernatorial debate, the soon-to-be governor of Alaska said of evolution and creation education, "Teach both. You know, don’t be afraid of education. Healthy debate is so important, and it’s so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both."
But what are the MSM, tabloids, net roots and blogs covering?
Do they understnd that Palin is the Wacko anti science, anti education candidate? We all know the focus is the topics of whose baby is it, is Palin the Alaska Beauty Queen or runnerup or third runner up, who and when and with whom her child partied.
No failure to fund our schools on the national and local level, no discussion of Iraq, none of Afghanistan, none about jobs moving overseas, no broken infrastructure, no Katrina revisited and no real focus on Rove slipping in a new hidden message Republican who motivates the Base.
So what does that have to do with the Dung Beetle?
The Economist, August 30, 2008, has an article on Evolution called "Beetle Drive." (p. 77.) It is about research published in the journal "Evolution" by Indiana University professors, Harald Parzer and Armin Moczek on the evolution and the dung beetle.
The dung beetle is apparently one species evolving over 50 years into four species providing proof of natural selection that can be seen within one human lifetime.
Thus, while hard science is documenting natural selection, McCain is promoting a creationist for Vice President of the US.
Should that be news? Yes, if you are concerned that the US is not producing scientists and the future of jobs and industry in the US depends largely on the number and ability of scientists and trained and educated people in our country.
Do the Wackos understand that Palin is a Creationist. Of course. Will they crawl over broken glass to elect her as Vice President and hope to move her up as President in 2012, of course. And, of course, make sure Creationism is allowed, encouraged and promoted in our schools and colleges.
What will the liberals, Democrats and believers in science do? We will chatter and blog and "tut tut" and put forth nominal effort to elect Obama-Biden.
Will we read the stories like "The Final Days of ther Bush Presidency" by Peter Baker in the NY Times and aired on Fresh Air on NPR with Terry Gross and get motivated?
Will we care about McCain hiring Tucker Eskew, Warren Tomkins and Neal Rhodes, the architects of the McCain smear for Bush in South Carolina as reported by Jake Tapper on ABC? They are not being hired to say nice things about Obama as they are famous for the smears of McCain about a Black child, wife abusing prescription drugs, brain washing of McCain, etc. What do you suppose they will put out "under the radar" on the Obamas?
Will we note that CBS does not even have a reporter in Iraq?
Will we note that there even is a war in Iraq and one in Afghanistan?
Not if Karl Rove hides the dung beetle story and his candidate who wants our schools to ignore it so she is elected.
Don't let the dung beetle be ignored in the Rove Dung machine.
