Kossacks need to engage on yet another front in the presidential election.
I regularly check my town's local chat board for advice about child care, restaurants etc. Usually (despite being a dad) I frequent the "mom to mom" section of the chat board. Over the past several months the number of threads on the chat boards, particularly the "mom to mom" section, about the presidential election have skyrocketed.
I imagine that my town is not unique in this regard. The interest in this presidential campaign is higher than any in my lifetime. People feel strongly and people want to learn more about the candidates.
The chat boards are frequently sources of mis-information. In the past few weeks I have slapped down assertions that Obama was a Muslim, Howard Metzenbaum and John Glenn were still in the Senate (yeah that one surprised me . . . it was part of a criticism of Metzenbaum and Pelosi's liberalism), and that Biden never talks to the press. This is to say nothing of assertions that Palin is more experienced than Obama and that Obama will raise taxes on everyone.
To paraphrase Churchill, we will fight them in the blogs and on the streets, in Congress and in the media . . . but don't forget the chat boards.
